Revised Traffic Fines and Penalties – Effective September 2019

Whether from Delhi, NCR, Other Metro Cities – Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad or Tier 2 or Tier 3 Cities – the Traffic Fines now remains same across all cities of India

Additional Fine as per High Court Order in Delhi: Pls Note – that Apart from Fine as mentioned in Tabular Format below – there is additional Fine of Rs 500 (over and above each Offence) as per High Court Order Ruling – which can be imposed on the Motorist.

Overspeeding along with finding accused of Dangerous Driving / Speeding at High Speed / Racing. Additionally: Now Driving license will be seized on the spot by police & suspended for at least 3 months. The person will not be allowed to drive the vehicle, Has to call someone from family / friends to drive car	Rs 5000
Driving without Seat Belt. Additionally: 2 Hour Counselling will also be required to be taken from designated Traffic Police Official on Importance of Seat Belt and need	Rs 1000

Red Light Jumping and Driving Dangerously where Traffic Police is of the view of Safety of others. Now Driving license will be seized on the spot by police & suspended for at least 3 months. Violation of directions of the on-duty police officer	Rs 2000

Driving without having Insurance Copy in Car. Additionally, Vehicle is also liable to be detained / impounded by Traffic Police.	Rs 1000 + Court Challan
Drunken Driving – Additionally, Vehicle is also liable to be detained / impounded by Traffic Police.  Offence is applicable for any person under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving found to have an BAC – Blood alcohol Content level exceeding 30 mg per 100 ml of blood detected by a breath analyzer	Rs 10000 + Court Challan
Using Mobile Cell Phone during Driving by Driver (Other Occupants in Car are free to use Mobile phone, no offence then). Additionally: Now Driving licence will be seized on the spot by police & suspended for at least 3 month. Driving without High Security Number Plate (for New Cars in Delhi) Also – as its as per Supreme Court Order, so any Newly delivered vehicle found without HSRP is contempt of Supreme Court Order and is also liable to be prosecuted, if found without HSRP Plate.	Rs. 2000

Generally, one Pint of Light beer will keep the person below the permissible limit of 30 mg – Subject to vary basis the breath analyzer test and is considered an offence for BAC content > 30 mg

Important for New Car Owners before taking Delivery of New Cars

Some of the dealers are selling cars, without registration basis there ‘Gate Pass’ in Delhi. Do note – driving an unregistered vehicle is a serious offence and even on day 1 – if caught – without RTO Receipt or Trade Certificate, can lead the vehicle to be impounded and fine. Do not get carried away by dealer casual attitude, as Motor Vehicle Act is much beyond same and is a law.

As per Law, Motor Vehicle Act Section 39/192 – only Registered Vehicles are allowed to ply on roads (RTO Receipt serves the purpose of registration) or else with Trade Certificate.

and similarly, search for Traffic Police site of your State / UT for Pending Notice payment / EChallan Payment.

Do note that Vahan as Central Site still do not display all challan, so its best to check respective traffic police site of your state or Union Territory.
