Supreme Court Dismisses PIL To Lower Men’s Marriageable Age From 21 To 18

Today, October 22, 2018, the Supreme Court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) praying to lower the legal age of men to marry from 21 to 18.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice S K Kaul and Justice K M Joseph while dismissing the petition also imposed a cost of Rs.25,000/- on the petitioner Advocate Asok Pande.

The Supreme Court observed that it cannot be a matter of PIL and if anyone is affected by the same, they could come to the court.
