Wildlife Conservation Society-India is an organization that works towards conservation backed by science. We engage with governments and partner with several other NGOs to achieve the best results. We have lately undertaken a project called Combating Wildlife Trafficking which aims at addressing illegal wildlife trade in India.

Job Title: Legal Assistant

Duration: 1 year

Remuneration: Will be commensurate with experience.

Location: Bangalore, may involve travel.

About the Project

Wildlife Conservation Society-India has initiated a project called Combating Wildlife Trafficking, which seeks to build capacity amongst law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to combat wildlife trafficking in India. This project envisions to improve India’s detection and enforcement agencies’ capacity to investigate, arrest, prosecute, convict and sentence criminal organizations that perpetrate wildlife trafficking.  To this end, WCS-India will conduct capacity building workshops for various stakeholders involved in investigation, enforcement and prosecution including the Forest Department, Police, Customs officials, Directorate of Enforcement, public prosecutors, judiciary etc.

About the Job 

The main responsibilities of the legal assistant are:

  • Assist with creation of curriculum and conducting capacity building workshops for various agencies.
  • Conduct research on other aspects of environmental and wildlife law.
  • Conduct research to understand conviction rates of wildlife offences in India.

Eligibility 

Educational Qualification: B.A/B.B.A, L.L.B.

Interest and passion for wildlife conservation is a must. Preferred if the candidate has done an internship on environmental law.
