Himachal Pradesh High Court seeks Kangana Ranaut’s response to plea challenging her Lok Sabha election
On Wednesday, The Himachal Pradesh High Court in Laik Ram Negi v. Kangana Ranaut & Anr issued notice to actress Kangana Ranaut in a petition challenging her election from the Mandi seat in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The plea was filed by Laik Ram Negi, who claimed that his nomination papers to contest from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency were wrongfully rejected.
The petitioner, a former forest department employee, says that he took early retirement and provided a “no dues certificate” from the department along with his nomination papers to the returning officer.
However, he was given one day to produce no dues certificates from the electricity, water and telephone departments. The returning officer did not accept his nomination papers even when he submitted these
Negi claimed he could have won the election if his papers had been accepted. On the same ground, he has prayed that the election be annulled.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kangana Ranaut won the Mandi seat by defeating Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes.
